Main Character WIP Blog Tour- Cain Foley

The fabulous romance author D.A. Rhine asked me to be part of the Main Character WIP Blog Tour. Her naughty and nice series The Vampires of the Chesapeake includes Kian Mactiernan and Rees Morgan , with a third installment on the way. Writing has been a part of her life since elementary school, and as you will see in her books, Ireland and Scotland have inspired her work. Visit her blog at

Questions about Cain Foley from Between the Cracks and Burning Doors: Prequel to The Extraction List Series:

1) What is the name of your character? Is he/she fictional or a historic person?
His name is Cain Foley, a fictional character that was inspired by everyone who has ever done something terrible for a terribly good reason.

2) When and where is the story set?
Cain is living in a futuristic America, which has become one of the poorest countries in the world. This has lead to violence among the young and gangs flooding the streets. He listens to a woman every night on the news that is pushing politicians to pass the Parental Morality Law: a set of rules that lay out the criteria for how parents should be raising their children (at least in the eyes of the government). If it passes, government officials would be authorized to remove children from the custody of parents who break the rules. Cain is living in an abusive home, and hoping that she will some day use the law to save him from his situation.

3) What should we know about him/her?
Cain is not magical, but he has very heightened senses, making him an extremely good fighter. He discovers this gift throughout the course of the book.

4) What is the main conflict? What messes up his/her life?
His abusive father puts him in a life or death situation. He chooses life, and must go on the run. While a fugitive, he meets several people who will help him decide the path he chooses for the rest of his life. A teaser from the book (the first paragraph in fact): “The first time I killed someone, it was an accident. Though I guess it was the kind of accident that happens when you squeeze your hands around someone’s neck for too long, or when you shove someone who is standing too close to the edge of a building. For me, I accidentally killed my father when I beat him to death with a pipe.”

5) What is the personal goal of the character?
During his time as a fugitive he meets several children that have been swept up in the gang life. The woman pushing the Parental Morality Law didn’t have a chance to save him, so he hopes he can save these children from the streets. He houses them in his hideout, all the while trying to stay hidden himself.

6) Is there a working title for this novel, and can we read more about it?
Between the Cracks and Burning Doors: Prequel to The Extraction List Series.

7) When can we expect the book to be published?
Shortly 🙂

Cain’s story will be out in the next few months. His life has not been an easy one, but certainly an exciting one! For updates on upcoming releases, follow me on Twitter @reneenmeland or like my Facebook page.
