Passing on advice from an expert…

Ok, so maybe I am the only one who didn’t know this, but just in case I thought I would pass along a very valuable piece of advice I got from someone at the writers conference I went to recently. For those of you who write Middle Grade or Young Adult Fiction, be wary of the middle ground when it comes to the age of your main character. 13-14 is a tricky age in life as well as fiction. It’s too old to be definitely middle grade, but too young to be definitely YA. Getting published is hard enough. Make it easier on yourself by picking a definite age group. If you write YA, can your main character be 15? Does it change the story of your Middle Grade book if your main character is 12? If not, then do it. Good luck!
